US Equestrian opens 2026 grants for licensed officials

US Equestrian has launched applications for its 2026 licensed official development grants, aimed at reducing financial barriers for equestrian officials. The program, which began in 2022, supports both new licenses and promotions for national and international levels. In 2025, it distributed $35,500 to 75 recipients.

The licensed official grant program was introduced in 2022 to help offset costs associated with obtaining new licenses or advancing to higher levels for both national and FEI officials. Last year, the initiative provided $35,500 in funding to 75 applicants, aiding the growth of officials in disciplines like vaulting and eventing.

One 2025 recipient, MacKenzie Waro, an applicant for 'R' Vaulting Technical Delegate and FEI Vaulting Steward, shared her appreciation: “Thank you for this incredible grant opportunity. Because of this support, I was able to successfully complete my apprenticeship. I am thrilled about the future of the vaulting sport and am grateful for the chance to contribute to its growth and strength. Your generosity has made a significant impact, and I am excited to continue making a positive difference in our sport.”

Grants in 2025 also supported participation in clinics. Hellen Alliston, a 2025 recipient applying for 'r' Eventing Judge and Technical Delegate, noted: “I am finding these clinics to be a great way to gain experience with the practical applications of judging. It's one thing to read and try to apply, but it's quite another to have a live rider in front of you, with the ability to take your time, and bounce your questions off of the judge.”

For 2026, applications fall into three categories. General grants address needs for more officials or higher-level ones in competition environments. U35 grants target individuals under 35 seeking to become licensed or pursue promotions. A new category, officiating abroad, enables FEI officials to gain international experience at events they might otherwise miss due to costs, potentially preparing them for championships and finals.

Applicants must submit online via the LO Dashboard by February 16, 2026. Funds awarded must be used by November 30, 2026. Inquiries can be sent to [email protected]. This effort underscores US Equestrian's commitment to bolstering the officiating pipeline in the sport.
