Utah Mammoth host Vegas Golden Knights for second matchup

The Utah Mammoth will face the Vegas Golden Knights for the second time in five days at the Delta Center on Monday night. Utah enters on a high after a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers, while Vegas comes off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Both teams boast strong defensive records in limiting shots.

The Utah Mammoth (11-8-3) welcome the Vegas Golden Knights (10-4-7) to the Delta Center for a 7:00 p.m. MT puck drop on Nov. 24, 2025. This marks the second of three meetings between the Pacific Division rivals this season, following Utah's 4-1 home loss to Vegas on Nov. 20.

Utah's head coach André Tourigny announced the lineup will mirror the third period of Saturday's game against the Rangers. That includes Kailer Yamamoto joining Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther on a line, with Michael Carcone centering Kevin Stenlund and Brandon Tanev. The full forward lines are: Clayton Keller - Barrett Hayton - Nick Schmaltz; Yamamoto - Cooley - Guenther; Lawson Crouse - NC McBain - JJ Peterka; Carcone - Stenlund - Tanev. On defense: Mikhail Sergachev - Nick DeSimone; Nate Schmidt - Sean Marino; Dmitri Simashev - Ian Cole.

In their recent 3-2 victory over the Rangers, JJ Peterka scored first, Clayton Keller tied it in the second period, and Nick DeSimone netted the winner in the third. Goaltender Karel Vejmelka stopped 20 of 22 shots for the win. Utah improved to 6-2-1 at home and has earned points in 23 of their last 29 home games dating back to last season.

Nick Schmaltz leads Utah with 10 goals and 22 assists, tying Clayton Keller and Mikhail Sergachev for the team lead in assists at 12. Keller has 20 points overall. Peterka has five goals in his last six games, totaling nine for the season, tied with Cooley for second on the team. Vejmelka is 9-5-2 with a 2.87 goals-against average and .884 save percentage in 16 games. Vítek Vaněček is 2-3-1 with a 2.85 GAA and .873 save percentage in six appearances.

Vegas enters on a six-game points streak but fell 4-3 in overtime to Anaheim in their latest outing. Shea Theodore, Braeden Bowman, and Tomas Hertl (power-play goal) scored in the first period for a 3-2 lead, but Troy Terry tied it before Cutter Gauthier's overtime winner. Pavel Dorofeyev leads Vegas with 11 goals, while Jack Eichel has 10 goals, 19 assists, and 29 points.

Akira Schmid is 9-1-3 with a 2.45 GAA and .902 save percentage in 13 games. Carl Lindbom is 0-3-2 with a 3.18 GAA and .874 save percentage in five games, filling in with Adin Hill injured.

Special teams could decide the game: Vegas ranks seventh on the power play at 24.3%, while Utah is eighth on the penalty kill at 83.3%. Both teams limit opponents to few shots—Utah fewest in the NHL at 24.0 per game, Vegas fourth at 25.5. Utah's defense has 16 points (3 goals, 13 assists) over the last seven games.

Cooley commented on Yamamoto's addition: “He’s a guy that plays physical, plays hard, wins a lot of battles and I think that’s going to give us some momentum and allows us to play with the puck a little more.” On facing Vegas' defense, he added: “They're a tough team to get to in front of the net so we've got to make sure we're battling there... They're big and heavy, but we got to make sure we have a guy there no matter what."

Tourigny emphasized preparation: "We need to be ready for all the grind, to go to work, to be on the right side of the puck, making the right decision with the puck, playing extremely fast, being unselfish, playing for the team, making good changes. All of that gives you momentum."

Monday caps Utah's four-game homestand; they host Montreal next on Nov. 26. Vegas finishes a three-game road trip before returning home against Ottawa on Wednesday.
