Vellore collector declares public holiday for Sirasu festival on May 15

Collector V. R. Subbulaxmi has declared May 15 a local public holiday in Vellore for the annual Sirasu festival at the Arulmigu Gangaiamman Temple in Gudiyatham.

The festival, known as the Sirasu or head festival, takes place every year on the first day of the Tamil month Vaikasi. Ms. Subbulaxmi held a preparatory meeting with Superintendent of Police U. Sivaraman at the Collectorate to plan crowd management and safety steps.

Organizers will set up dedicated routes with temporary shelters for devotees. They will also provide drinking water, washrooms, sanitation facilities, and health help desks along the way.

Temporary shops and giant wheel rides are banned to avoid overcrowding. CCTV cameras will monitor the route, police personnel will be deployed in sufficient numbers, power supply will remain uninterrupted, and extra bus services will operate for the event.
