Viggo Björck has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets after being selected eighth overall in this summer's NHL Draft. The 18-year-old forward leaves Djurgården for the NHL organization starting next season.
The deal carries an average annual value of 1.075 million dollars. It includes a signing bonus of 102 500 dollars for each of the three years, with base salaries starting at 922 500 dollars in year one if he plays in the NHL.
Additional performance bonuses could reach up to one million dollars. If assigned to the AHL, his salary would be 87 500 dollars per season.
Djurgården will receive compensation of approximately 350 000 dollars, half of the NHL transfer payment, because Björck played two of the last four seasons with the club. The other half goes to his youth club IFK Täby, which also receives an extra 100 000 kronor as his original team.
Djurgården sportchef Marcus Due-Boje said the club had prepared for this outcome and will now add two players to maintain team strength.
