Wyoming high school skiers wrap up week 7 competitions

High school alpine and nordic skiers from Wyoming competed in separate invitational events over the January 30-31 weekend, marking the first time both disciplines raced simultaneously this season. Alpine events took place at Red Lodge Mountain in Montana, while nordic races shifted to Jackson due to snow conditions. Standout performances came from athletes in Jackson, Natrona County, and Pinedale teams.

The Wyoming High School skiing season reached week 7 with alpine and nordic events unfolding across the weekend of January 30-31, 2026. For the first time this year, both skiing disciplines shared the spotlight, though weather challenges prompted adjustments to the schedule.

Alpine skiers headed to the Cody Invitational at Red Lodge Mountain in Montana, a demanding venue known for its slalom courses. Racing began at 10 a.m. each day on the Turnpike run, featuring schools including Casper Kelly Walsh, Casper Natrona County, Cody, Jackson, Laramie, and Pinedale. Over 130 athletes competed across various levels.

In Friday's slalom, Natrona County's MK Lacko claimed victory in the girls' division with a two-run time of 1:54.32, followed by teammate Emersyn McNamee in second and Pinedale's Ivy Ward in third. The boys' race saw Jackson dominate with Brett Lane winning at 1:38.84, ahead of Sage Kandolin and Teddy Peightal.

Saturday's slalom brought another strong showing from Lacko, who swept the girls' event at 1:59.75, with Cody's Mia Broussard second and Pinedale's Ellie Tolson third. Jackson continued their boys' sweep as Teddy Peightal took first at 1:40.21, Kandolin second, and Lane third.

Team scores reflected the intensity: girls' standings ended with Natrona County at 96 points, Pinedale at 93, and Cody at 76. For boys, Jackson led with 155 points, followed by Pinedale's 95.

Meanwhile, nordic skiers resumed after a two-week break at the Trail Creek Invitational in Jackson, relocated from Cody due to poor snow. Friday's 5km skate race started at 1 p.m. with interval starts. Pinedale's Olivia Tolson won the girls' event at 14:30.4, ahead of Jackson's Tirzah Ellis and Sheridan's Kayley Alicke. Kelly Walsh's Everett Roberson topped the boys at 12:05.7, with Pinedale's Darin Binning second and Jackson's Ellery Preheim third.

Saturday's 10km classic race used a mass start at 10 a.m. over four laps. Roberson swept the boys' division at 27:09.9, 1:34.6 ahead of Preheim, with Binning third. Cody's Raina Wachob won the girls' race at 35:31.5, followed by Alicke and teammate Haillie Schramm.

These results build on last week's performances, where Cody girls and Jackson boys led team standings in Laramie, with individual wins from Cody, Jackson, and Natrona County athletes. Full results are available post-competition, highlighting the season's competitive depth amid variable conditions.
