Five crew members who fell overboard from a cargo ship off the southwest coast of Seogwipo on Jeju Island have all been rescued. The Coast Guard responded to a report received at 4:47 p.m. and completed the operation within about an hour, safely retrieving all aboard a life raft. The rescued foreign nationals are in stable condition.

Heavy rain and strong winds lashed Jeju Island on Thursday, cancelling 88 flights at Jeju International Airport. Some 23 domestic flights were also delayed, while two others from Seoul and Shanghai returned after failing to land. All passenger ferries linking Jeju's main island to surrounding islands were suspended.

President Lee Jae-myung reaffirmed on April 3 the government's push to abolish statutes of limitations for criminal and civil cases involving state violence while honoring Jeju April 3 massacre victims. Prime Minister Kim Min-seok vowed at a Jeju Island ceremony to uncover the truth of the 1948 event and restore victims' honor. The pledges mark the 78th anniversary of the uprising crackdown.
