A 51-year-old man died of a heart attack in Caballito while the quarterfinal match between Argentina and Switzerland was underway on July 12, 2026.
The SAME responded to the emergency but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. The man lived in Caballito and collapsed near the end of the match.
Other emergencies occurred in Buenos Aires during the same match. A 45-year-old man in Caballito was taken to Hospital Piñero with chest pain. In Palermo two people fainted and one was hospitalized. A 74-year-old woman in Villa Lugano was transferred to Hospital Cecilia Grierson.
In Retiro a 48-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were taken to Hospital Rivadavia. Experts from Hospital Universitario Austral noted that consultations for cardiovascular problems rise around 20 percent after matches involving the Argentine national team.
