Alex Eala upsets Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon to reach round of 16

Filipina tennis player Alexandra Eala defeated defending champion Iga Swiatek 7-6(9), 6-2 in the third round at Wimbledon on July 4, 2026. The victory on Centre Court sent the 21-year-old into the round of 16.

Eala completed the match in two hours and 14 minutes after claiming the opening set in a marathon tiebreak that lasted one hour and 24 minutes. She built a 4-0 lead in the second set and closed out the contest with a forehand winner.

After the win, Eala said, “I don’t know how to describe it. I’m into the second week of a Slam and it’s amazing for me. Iga is a phenomenal player and a really nice person, so I’m really grateful to be able to share Centre Court with her in Wimbledon nonetheless.”
