The ensemble includes veterans like Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs in key roles, alongside new characters created for the show. Filming is set to begin later this month.
Amazon's live-action adaptation of the Tomb Raider video game franchise continues to take shape with the announcement of several new cast members on January 6, 2026. The series, created and co-showrun by Phoebe Waller-Bridge alongside Chad Hodge, features Sophie Turner in the iconic role of adventurer Lara Croft. Joining her are established actors in both familiar and original parts.
Confirmed roles from the games include Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, Lara's tech support and friend; Jason Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay, her uncle; and Bill Paterson as Winston, the Croft family butler. New characters introduced for the series are Jack Bannon as Gerry, Lara's pilot and snack enthusiast; John Heffernan as David, a weary government official drawn into Lara's world; Celia Imrie as Francine, the fundraising-focused head at the British Museum; Paterson Joseph as Thomas Warner, a senior official handling crises; Sasha Luss as Sasha, a competitive rival to Lara; Juliette Motamed as Georgia, a strict curator at the British Museum; Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, a scheming figure seeking to use Lara's skills; and August Wittgenstein as Lukas, an illicit raider with a shared past with Lara.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge expressed enthusiasm, stating, "Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favorites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams!" Peter Friedlander, head of Amazon MGM Studios, added, "Tomb Raider has always been defined by bold storytelling and unforgettable characters, and these new cast members bring incredible depth and gravitas to the series."
Sigourney Weaver has praised the scripts as "incredible, and very funny, very charming, very witty." Directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken, production is slated to start on January 19, 2026, though no release date has been announced.
On the gaming front, Crystal Dynamics is developing Tomb Raider: Catalyst, set in Northern India after the events of Underworld, and a remake titled Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, scheduled for 2026. Both will feature Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft.
