Band of Heathens releases 'No Direction' single for upcoming album

The Band of Heathens has unveiled their new single 'No Direction,' the lead track from their forthcoming 20th anniversary album Country Sides, set for release on February 20, 2026. The self-produced record captures the band's reflections on their musical journey and enduring camaraderie. This release aligns with the platinum certification of their earlier album Hurricane.

The Band of Heathens marked a milestone with the drop of 'No Direction,' serving as the opening song on Country Sides. Produced by the band alongside Jim Vollentine, the album was recorded in just one week at their studio, The Finishing School. This project embodies their DIY approach and emphasis on narrative-driven songs, highlighting lives on the fringes and the strong connection between founding members.

Gordy Quist described the track to American Songwriter as "a love letter to all the things we leave behind as we go out chasing this crazy dream in music." He added, "We're constantly on the move, but there's a lot of love and inspiration where we started from. I think the song is trying to put those things together and make sense of leaving some things that you love in pursuit of something."

The song narrates the band's evolution, from initial inspirations and youthful energy to moments of doubt and eventual resolve. It features a mix of country and rock elements, including rich harmonies and gritty guitar riffs, evoking a fireside contemplation of the families and hometowns sacrificed for a touring lifestyle.

Ed Jurdi, reflecting on the album's conclusion, noted, "That's the ending of the record. We're finding a level of gratitude and understanding, and meaning of what all of the journey has been about." He explained the quick recording process: "I think it was just an idea of really capturing the snapshot at this point in time. Everyone was really committed to doing that, which was really exciting. I think that really informed the vibe of the record, the feel of it, and the spirit of it."

Jurdi emphasized the band's appreciation amid current challenges: "I feel like we're at a time where we need music to bring us together more than ever. That's kind of always been our mantra with our music." He continued, "We're grateful to be here. Happy to be alive, happy to be healthy, and happy to be playing music. I don't take any of it for granted."

Further expressing thanks, he said, "We're just grateful that people still show up to see us play live, people still listen to our records. We're still feeling creative. We still enjoy making music together. We're still all friends and get along, and can't wait to get on the bus and play more shows. It's not something I ever would have imagined when we started out, that we'd be here this far in, but I'm certainly grateful for it."

The single's launch comes as Hurricane reaches platinum status. To promote Country Sides, the band has scheduled a U.S. tour extending through March and April 2026, with various co-headlining shows and special guests.
