Canadian indie-rock band Broken Social Scene have revealed their first album in nearly a decade, Remember the Humans, set for release on May 8. The group will also embark on a summer tour with Metric and Stars. The announcement includes the lead single 'Not Around Anymore.'
Broken Social Scene, the Canadian supergroup known for their expansive indie-rock sound, are returning with their sixth studio album, Remember the Humans, marking their first full-length release since 2017's Hug of Thunder. The album arrives on May 8 via Arts & Crafts and was produced by David Newfeld, who previously helmed the band's classics You Forgot It in People (2002) and their 2005 self-titled record. This reunion between Newfeld and co-founder Kevin Drew was influenced by personal loss, as both had recently lost their mothers. Newfeld reflected, "Our moms would have wanted us to do this, and get it right after 20 years of not working together."
The album features contributions from artists including Hannah Georgas, Feist, and Lisa Lobsinger, building on the band's collaborative ethos. Founding member Charles Spearin described the record's emotional depth: “There's a different kind of honesty in this record. We've had success, we've lost friends, we've lost parents, we're at this ‘what happens next?’ stage in life."
Leading the release is the single "Not Around Anymore," accompanied by a video directed by Jordan D. Allen, Rachel McLean, and Kevin Drew. Following the album's launch, Broken Social Scene will join Metric—who are releasing their own album Romanticize The Dive on April 24—and Stars for the All the Feelings Tour across North America. The tour kicks off on June 8 at Moody Amphitheater in Austin, Texas, with stops in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Brooklyn, and Atlanta, before concluding on August 7 at RBC Amphitheatre in Toronto.
Since Hug of Thunder, the band issued the 2019 Let’s Try the After EPs and a 2022 collection of B-sides, Old Dead Young. The full tracklist for Remember the Humans is:
