Carlos Maslatón meets Cristina Kirchner and rejects her conviction

Liberal lawyer Carlos Maslatón met with former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner at her San José 1111 home, rejecting her corruption conviction as politically motivated. The ex-leader thanked him for the visit and valued the dialogue between people with opposing political backgrounds. The meeting followed the Supreme Court's rejection of her appeals in the Cuadernos case.

The meeting between Carlos Maslatón and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner took place on October 30, 2025, at the former president's home on San José 1111 in Buenos Aires, where she is serving house arrest. Maslatón, a former UCeDé councilor and liberal financial analyst, visited the Justicialist Party leader shortly after the Supreme Court of Justice rejected her resources in the "Cuadernos" case that Wednesday, paving the way for the oral trial on November 6.

Maslatón publicly defended the Vialidad conviction by quoting the Bible: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,” referring to Jesus Christ's Beatitudes in 29 AD in Galilee. On social media, he recounted analyzing events in Argentina since October 2011, when the "national rift" emerged due to political misunderstandings. He admitted being critical of her government in 2012-2013, participating in the 13S, 8N, and 18A marches, mistakenly believing the country was heading toward Venezuelan chavismo, but acknowledged the Peronists' democratic tolerance.

“I do not accept jailing the adversary to proscribe them from electoral competition,” Maslatón emphasized, as part of the 1983 political generation. They discussed Iran and AMIA; he mentioned his meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres in November 2010, who thanked Cristina and Néstor Kirchner's efforts. They also talked about the economy and Javier Milei's government, though no public details emerged.

Fernández de Kirchner replied on X: “What a good chat yesterday with Carlos Maslatón... the best part of that chat was what was not said, but implicit: the possibility of talking, sharing, and even agreeing on many things our country needs to build together, between two people from different life stories and, at times, antagonistic political militancies.” She added: “Thanks Carlos for your visit and, above all, for your solidarity”.

Maslatón concluded by wishing her the best: “I wish all the best to CFK, appreciated by a large part of the Argentine population and who deserves respect. In her 8 years of government, she had successes and mistakes, like everyone, but tried to achieve the best for the country from her point of view.” The meeting was facilitated by Eduardo Valdés, a friend to both.
