A new CCTV video showing police officers assaulting two young men in a Kikuyu pool hall has sparked widespread online outrage. The incident occurred late on Friday, January 23, and involves officers from Nderi Police Post. It marks the second such case in just two weeks.
The one-minute, 38-second CCTV footage obtained by Kenyans.co.ke captures three uniformed officers in green attire entering a small room with green-painted walls and a pool table in Kikuyu. Two young men were playing pool when the officers arrived, instantly shifting the room's atmosphere. The police positioned themselves near the entrance and table, appearing to question individuals while maintaining control.
The youths complied, standing by walls and doorways as they were monitored. Soon after, one officer struck a young man in the stomach with a club, while another slapped him multiple times. A third officer then slapped the second youth on the face repeatedly before handcuffing both. The officers gathered the pool balls and led the men out to a packed Land Cruiser.
This comes just two weeks after a similar eight-minute video from Nandi Hills on January 10, 2026, where officers stormed a pool hall, forced 12 men to the floor, and demanded IDs. Violence escalated when one tried to leave, drawing baton blows. The incident drew condemnation from Nandi Hills Senator Samson Cherargei and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who called on Inspector General Douglas Kanja to act swiftly. As of publication, the National Police Service has issued no official response to either event.
