China expects over 1 billion passenger trips in summer railway rush

China State Railway Group said the summer railway travel rush from July 1 to Aug. 31 is expected to handle 1.01 billion passenger trips over 62 days.

The national network is projected to see an average 16.29 million passenger trips each day, driven by student travel, family visits and tourism.

Railway authorities plan to add 480 inter-regional passenger train services, raising the daily total in operation to about 12,000 trains.
