Christopher Nolan reveals 'The Odyssey' is shorter than 'Oppenheimer'

Christopher Nolan stated that his upcoming film 'The Odyssey' will have a runtime shorter than his 2023 epic 'Oppenheimer', which lasted 180 minutes. Despite shooting over two million feet of film during a 91-day production, much of it at sea, Nolan aims to keep the experience under three hours. The adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic begins filming on July 17 in IMAX.

Nolan, a two-time Oscar winner, shared these details in recent interviews. Speaking to the Associated Press, he described the project as 'an epic film, as the subject matter demands,' but emphasized, 'But it is shorter.' He also addressed the pressure of adapting 'The Odyssey', saying, 'There’s a massive amount of pressure. Anyone taking on The Odyssey is taking on the hopes and dreams of people for epic movies everywhere and that comes with a huge responsibility.' Nolan drew from his experience with 'The Dark Knight' trilogy, noting the need for a 'strong and sincere interpretation.'
