Clay Holmes exits Mets game with hamstring tightness

Clay Holmes, the New York Mets' most consistent starter early this season, left Friday night's game against the Oakland Athletics with left hamstring tightness. The right-hander departed in the sixth inning after a visit from assistant trainer Bryan Baca. Holmes had allowed one run through five innings.

NEW YORK -- Holmes was making his third start of the season, posting a 1.50 ERA entering the game. He cruised through the early innings, surrendering a single run in the third but limiting further damage. In his second year with the Mets, Holmes showed improvements across key metrics prior to the injury scare. He had thrown 81 pitches when Baca visited the mound following a brief conversation with the pitcher. Holmes' final pitch, a 86.7 mph cutter to Jacob Wilson, resulted in a single and marked his slowest offering of the night amid a slight velocity drop in the sixth. Tobias Myers replaced Holmes and received extra time to warm up. Should Holmes miss time, the Mets have several internal options. Myers and bullpen pitcher Sean Manaea are candidates, along with Triple-A arms Jonah Tong and Christian Scott.
