Counsell criticizes rule after Crow-Armstrong tagged out

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell was ejected from Tuesday's game against the New York Mets after a disputed baserunning call involving Pete Crow-Armstrong. The Cubs won 9-6 despite the ruling.

Pete Crow-Armstrong continued his strong form with a three-run homer and two walks in the victory. He is batting .410 with 11 home runs over his last 24 games.

In the seventh inning, Crow-Armstrong advanced on a walk issued to Michael Busch. He slid into second base but came off the bag, allowing Bo Bichette to tag him out after a challenge. Umpires upheld the call.

Counsell argued the decision and was ejected. After the game he said the umpires interpreted the rules correctly but called the rule itself terrible.

The Cubs improved to 41-37 and remain tied for the third wild-card spot. The Mets fell to 34-44 after their third straight loss.
