Cozy Game Librarian Sparks AI Debate on Steam

Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library gained popularity on Steam and Twitch shortly after its May release. The indie title drew criticism after developers disclosed limited use of generative AI. Some streamers cancelled planned broadcasts in response.

The game, developed by the two-person team ArtRising, reached 29,000 concurrent players. Players organize over 3,000 books in a fantasy library, unlocking magical tools that speed up the process. Disclosure on the Steam page states that four assets received AI refinement and some text underwent AI-assisted grammar corrections. Developers described AI as a supportive tool with all final work reviewed by hand. Backlash followed the disclosure. Streamer Janken Pomme cancelled a planned broadcast on June 2, citing opposition to AI in any form. A small number of reviewers questioned whether additional undisclosed AI appeared in book covers and titles. Reviews remain Very Positive overall. Many players continue to play the title despite the debate.
