Cuban healthcare workers in Venezuela rushed to assist victims following two major earthquakes on June 25. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and government.
The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, struck central Venezuela with epicenters in Carabobo and Yaracuy states. They caused approximately 200 deaths and more than 900 injuries, along with damage to 250 buildings, particularly in La Guaira state which was declared a disaster zone.
Cuban medical personnel from the internationalist mission provided immediate aid to those affected. President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez stated via social media that the workers were "providing all possible assistance to the Venezuelan people from the very beginning" and conveyed "deepest condolences and full solidarity."
Venezuelan acting president Delcy Rodríguez thanked Cuba for its support and noted the longstanding brotherhood between the two countries. She declared a state of emergency and announced measures including a $200 million assistance fund. Esteban Lazo Hernández and Jorge Rodríguez also issued statements of solidarity and emphasized rescue efforts.
