David Croft, Sky Sports Formula 1 commentator, spoke on the Sky Sports F1 Show about the recent hype surrounding Kimi Antonelli after the 19-year-old's maiden F1 win at the Chinese Grand Prix. Antonelli defended his lead against Mercedes teammate George Russell, who leads the drivers' standings by four points after the first two rounds, as well as Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Croft addressed co-host Simon Lazenby directly, saying, 'I can't believe you're putting pressure on Kimi Antonelli for the title right now.' He added, 'Nobody should be putting him under that sort of pressure. Championships are won over the course of 22 rounds this year. Consistency.' Croft highlighted Russell's strong form, noting he was the only driver last year to reach the chequered flag in every race. He praised Antonelli's potential, stating, 'He will keep George very honest throughout this season. He has immense speed. He has brilliant capability. He will make mistakes.' Croft drew comparisons to young drivers like Max Verstappen at a similar age and Oscar Piastri last year against Lando Norris, illustrating the impact of experience. He expressed confidence in Mercedes' support, saying, 'He's in the right team. He's in a Mercedes team that will nurture him, and he's got the people around him that will nurture him as well.' Croft advised a measured approach: 'There will be a great clamour for him now to go right out there and beat George week after week after week. And I don't see that happening just yet... he's just got to take every race as it comes.'
