Derek Hill made a leaping catch above the right-center field wall to rob Juan Soto of a first-inning home run. The play helped the Philadelphia Phillies secure a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field on Friday night.
Hill reached high above the wall after racing from his position to make the grab. Teammates including Zack Wheeler and Brandon Marsh praised the effort as one of the best they had seen.
Wheeler said the catch was the best he had witnessed in person. Soto called it an unbelievable play after reviewing the replay. Hill later added an infield single and scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning on a hit by Trea Turner.
The Phillies acquired Hill from the White Sox on June 11. Interim manager Don Mattingly noted Hill's defense and speed as reasons the team targeted him. Hill also hit go-ahead homers in the two prior games against the Nationals.
