Kyle Schwarber starts at first base for Phillies

Kyle Schwarber made his first start at first base for the Philadelphia Phillies since 2021 and hit his MLB-leading 25th home run in a game against the Miami Marlins.

Schwarber took the field at first base Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. It marked his first start at the position since his time with the Red Sox.

His home run in the fourth inning made him the fourth Phillies player to reach 25 homers in the team's first 73 games. Bryce Harper shifted to designated hitter for the contest.

Interim manager Don Mattingly noted that Schwarber handles the position adequately and that the move helps rest Harper. Outfielder Brandon Marsh also hit leadoff for the first time in more than four years and hit a two-run homer.

Trea Turner is expected to return to the lineup for the series finale on Wednesday.
