Dunn's overtime goal gives Kraken win over Kings

Vince Dunn scored at 1:21 of overtime to cap a Seattle Kraken comeback in a 3-2 victory against the Los Angeles Kings at Climate Pledge Arena on Wednesday. Matty Beniers tied the game 2-2 with 24.8 seconds remaining in the third period on a power-play goal. The win ended Seattle's six-game skid.

The Seattle Kraken snapped a 0-5-1 skid with a hard-fought 3-2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings, improving to 12-10-6 while the Kings fell to 14-8-8 after a two-game winning streak.

Jared McCann opened the scoring for Seattle at 3:21 of the second period with a power-play goal, one-timing a pass from Vince Dunn to beat Anton Forsberg. McCann, returning from a 17-game absence due to a lower-body injury, finished the play after a tic-tac-toe sequence involving Chandler Stephenson and Dunn. However, McCann left the game with 39 seconds remaining in the third after tangling with Forsberg near the crease; no immediate update was available on his status.

The Kings tied it 1-1 at 8:16 of the second on Alex Laferriere's short-handed breakaway goal. Springing free on a chip from Joel Armia, Laferriere deked to his backhand and lifted the puck over Joey Daccord's shoulder. Laferriere became the second Kings player with multiple short-handed goals this season, as Los Angeles leads the NHL with six.

Kevin Fiala put Los Angeles ahead 2-1 at 14:40 of the third on a power-play goal, receiving a touch pass from Anze Kopitar and deking before lifting it under the bar.

Seattle forced overtime when Beniers redirected Eeli Tolvanen's shot-pass at 19:35.3 of the third for a power-play goal. Dunn then won it in overtime on a power play, one-timing Tolvanen's feed from the right circle over Forsberg's glove.

Dunn finished with a goal and two assists, Tolvanen had two assists, and Daccord made 24 saves. Forsberg stopped 30 shots for the Kings. Seattle went 3-for-7 on the power play, while Los Angeles was 1-for-5. No 5-on-5 goals were scored, highlighting strong checking from both sides.

"It's not anything special drawn up," Dunn said of his winner. "It's just taking the shot that's there and hoping good things happen."

Kraken coach Lane Lambert praised the execution in the final minute: "Our guys did a great job of executing what we needed to execute."

Kings coach Jim Hiller noted the penalties: "Lots of penalties on both sides tonight, and too many for us. That probably is the difference in the game."

With the goal, Dunn tied Jordan Eberle and McCann for the most overtime goals in Kraken history with three and leads the franchise with 11 overtime points.
