Josh Mahura scored at 3:06 of overtime to lift the Seattle Kraken to a 4-3 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 18, 2025, at Scotiabank Arena. The shorthanded Kraken held three leads but needed extra time to secure their third win in five games. John Tavares scored twice for Toronto, reaching 500 points with the franchise.
The Kraken improved to 3-0-2 with their fourth straight overtime game, extending the longest season-opening point streak in franchise history. Playing without defenseman Brandon Montour, who took a personal leave for a family matter, and forward Freddy Gaudreau, out 4-6 weeks with an upper-body injury, Seattle relied on depth to overcome Toronto.

In the first period, Shane Wright scored his second goal in as many games at 7:29 on the power play, redirecting a Mason Marchment shot past Anthony Stolarz for a 1-0 lead. Toronto tied it at 14:56 when Morgan Rielly wristed a pass from Auston Matthews on a 2-on-1 rush.
The second period saw Jani Nyman one-time a Marchment pass at 14:19 to put Seattle ahead 2-1. William Nylander assisted John Tavares' rebound goal at 16:01 to tie it. Vince Dunn restored the lead at 17:44 with a one-timer from Eeli Tolvanen, upheld despite Jaden Schwartz being pushed into Stolarz by Toronto's Brandon Carlo.
Tavares scored again at 1:21 of the third on the power play, backhanding a Nylander rebound for his 500th point with the Maple Leafs, tying the game 3-3. Joey Daccord made a crucial stop on Oliver Ekman-Larsson in the final seconds to force overtime.
In 3-on-3, Chandler Stephenson passed to Mahura, who deked Nylander and beat Stolarz. Mahura ended a 134-game goal drought; his last was Jan. 17, 2023, at Scotiabank Arena with Florida.
"It’s been a minute I guess but it’s nice to get the two points," Mahura said. Kraken coach Lane Lambert praised the resilience: "We expect to be in tight hockey games... and we have to be comfortable playing in those games."
Toronto coach Craig Berube noted inconsistencies: "We had too many lapses in the game that cost us." Stolarz made 24 saves, Daccord 26. The Leafs fell to 3-2-1.
