Egypt marks International Nurses Day and reaffirms support for healthcare workers

Egypt’s Health Ministry marked International Nurses Day on May 12 with calls to invest in nursing staff and expand training programs. The event carried the slogan “Supporting nurses saves lives.” Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the central role of nurses in the country’s healthcare system.

The ceremony in Egypt drew health officials, lawmakers, World Health Organization representatives, and nursing professionals from across the country. Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stated that the government continues to prioritize development of the nursing profession to strengthen the healthcare sector and invest in human resources. He described Egyptian nurses as combining “knowledge, skill, and compassion” and praised their response to health crises.

Abdel Ghaffar said the government will continue expanding training and qualification programs while supporting specialized nursing fields. Nursing Syndicate head Kawthar Mahmoud praised President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s support for medical teams and urged nurses to pursue ongoing professional development and ethical standards.

National Council for Women head Amal Emara called Egyptian nurses “a model representing Egyptian women.” Physician Hossam Mowafy noted that a strong nursing system is essential for healthcare success. The event ended with honors for distinguished medical and nursing professionals.
