Emma Stone, the 37-year-old two-time Academy Award winner, addressed speculation about her involvement in an upcoming Miss Piggy movie during an interview with W Magazine published on January 6, 2026. Producing the Disney project alongside longtime friend Jennifer Lawrence, with Tony Award winner Cole Escola as screenwriter, Stone jokingly expressed outrage at the idea of her taking on the role.
"First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I have ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that," Stone said. "Why would I play a literal star? She’s the greatest—what do you mean?" She added, "Of course I’m not playing Miss Piggy, Lynn. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy."
Lawrence first revealed the film on the podcast "Las Culturistas" with hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers in November 2025. "I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to—Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it," she said. When asked about appearing in the movie, Lawrence replied, "I think so, we have to," though she and Stone have made clear they will not play Miss Piggy.
The idea for the film originated during the pandemic, sparked by discussions on cancel culture. Lawrence later shared on "The Tonight Show" that a friend jokingly called Miss Piggy a feminist icon, though she noted this may not reflect the plot. This marks the first joint project for Stone and Lawrence.
Stone, fresh from her leading role in "Bugonia" and previous work in "Eddington" and "Kinds of Kindness," is currently on the awards trail. She won Oscars for "La La Land" in 2016 and "Poor Things" in 2023, and her only Broadway role was as Sally Bowles in "Cabaret" in 2014. Details on the film's storyline or release remain scarce.
