He focused on using real fire and practical effects throughout production, which took place primarily in New Zealand. Vaniček noted that the movie features intense scenes such as a dog being killed and a car fight involving a headrest as a weapon.
The director explained that he received full creative freedom from Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert. He aimed to continue from the ending of Evil Dead Rise while keeping the story only loosely connected to prior entries. Vaniček also addressed a post-credits scene, stating that fans will need to watch closely to see where a character ends up.
Vaniček said the film explores themes of whether people are ready to kill loved ones turned into Deadites. He added that he does not plan to direct another Evil Dead movie, preferring fresh visions for the franchise.
