Foreign Minister Sugiono detailed why Ambassador Rolliansyah Soemirat was denied entry to Grand Mosalla Tehran during the final homage to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Indonesian government had received an invitation and designated its ambassador in Tehran as the official representative. Sugiono said the choice was made because several officials were occupied with domestic state visits.
On 2 July 2026 Indonesia received confirmation that entry to the complex was restricted to guests above ambassadorial rank. Consequently the ambassador remained outside during the proceedings.
Sugiono affirmed that Indonesia is preparing another representative for the funeral. The remarks were delivered at Halim Perdanakusuma airbase in Jakarta on 6 July 2026.
