Indonesia's government has allocated an additional Rp 1.77 trillion from APBN reserves to cover 2026 Hajj flight costs amid rising avtur prices. This enables a Rp 2 million reduction in Hajj fees per pilgrim for around 220,000 participants. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the funds come from prior-year budget efficiencies.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the additional Rp 1.77 trillion for Hajj pilgrims' flight costs comes from APBN reserves generated by one-year efficiencies. "Dari APBN lah, kan masih ada cadangan-cadangan," Purbaya said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (April 8, 2026).

He explained that these efficiencies can be redirected to urgent needs, such as extra costs from avtur price surges triggered by Middle East geopolitical dynamics. Thus, the government avoids burdening pilgrims with additional fees.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto confirmed the 2026 Hajj fee reduction of Rp 2 million. "Ongkos haji diturunkan Rp 2 juta, sehingga dampak dari kenaikan (harga) avtur ini di-absorb pemerintah untuk 220 ribu orang jamaah haji," he said on the same occasion.

President Prabowo Subianto also addressed Hajj efficiencies, including a request for a dedicated terminal in Saudi Arabia for Indonesian pilgrims to speed up departures and returns, and reducing the waiting list maximum to 26 years.
