Heung-min Son will return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 9 for a ceremonial goodbye to fans before the Champions League match against Slavia Prague. The former captain, who left for Los Angeles FC in the summer after 10 years with Spurs, expressed his excitement about addressing supporters in person. This event honors his legacy, including captaining the team to the Europa League title last season.
Heung-min Son's departure from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2025 marked the end of a decade-long stint that saw him become one of the club's all-time greats. The 33-year-old South Korean forward joined Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC after announcing his exit during the club's pre-season tour in South Korea. His final appearance for Spurs was a friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul, leaving him without a proper stadium farewell to north London supporters.
Tottenham have arranged for Son to take to the pitch before kick-off against Slavia Prague in the Champions League on December 9. He will address the fans directly, a moment he described as essential. "When I announced my difficult decision to leave Spurs in the summer, it was in Korea and I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium," Son said in a statement. "Now I am so happy because I am going to come back to London on 9th December, for the Champions League match, and be able to tell the Spurs fans in person just how much their support and love over 10 years has meant to me and my family. It will be emotional, but it's important for me and the Club that this happens."
During his time at Tottenham, Son scored 173 goals in 454 appearances, placing him fifth on the club's all-time scoring list. In the Premier League alone, he contributed 127 goals and 71 assists in 333 matches. As captain under Ange Postecoglou, he lifted the Europa League trophy with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final, ending Spurs' 17-year wait for silverware.
At LAFC, Son has adapted quickly, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists in 13 appearances alongside former teammate Hugo Lloris. The club reached the Western Conference semi-finals but fell to Vancouver Whitecaps in a penalty shootout after Son's late free-kick equalizer. He has dismissed rumors of a winter loan to Europe, affirming his commitment to LAFC.
To celebrate his legacy, Tottenham is commissioning a street mural on Tottenham High Road, designed by Son and created by Murwalls, the same artists behind tributes to Ledley King and Harry Kane. The mural will be completed by December 9, serving as a permanent homage near the stadium.
