Mauricio Pochettino has described Tottenham Hotspur's fight against Premier League relegation as 'really sad.' The former Spurs manager, who led the club to the Champions League final, spoke emotionally about his enduring connection to the team. He made the comments on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast.
Pochettino, who managed Tottenham from 2014 to 2019, said he remains deeply attached to the club. “I really love Tottenham,” he stated. “It’s going to be a part of my life, an important part of my life as a coach, my personal life too. It’s really sad because I know how the people are suffering there, inside the club and also the fans. It’s difficult to accept.” Currently preparing to coach the United States at this summer’s World Cup, Pochettino has been closely following Tottenham's struggles. Tottenham sit 18th in the Premier League table, two points from safety with four games left. A recent win over Wolves broke a long winless streak in the league, but injuries have hampered their efforts. Midfielder Xavi Simons is expected to miss the rest of the season due to a knee problem, and striker Dominic Solanke was forced off in the same match. The team faces a tough run-in, including a trip to Aston Villa. Pochettino remains open to a Premier League return. “One day, yes, because I really like England,” he said. “I think my profile – my human profile and my coaching profile – match very well with the Premier League.”
