High Court orders President Ruto to reconstitute Cabinet

The High Court has ordered President William Ruto to reconstitute his Cabinet within 120 days to meet the constitutional two-thirds gender rule.

The ruling came after the court found the current Cabinet has 16 men and only six women. The President will have to remove two male ministers and replace them with women to reach the required threshold.

The Cabinet has a total of 22 members. The six women listed are Beatrice Askul Moe, Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Deborah Mulongo Barasa, Alice Wahome, Rebecca Miano and Roselinda Soipan Tuya.

A State House official said the government may appeal the decision. Lawyer Chris Omore said an appeal could question whether the Attorney General and Cabinet Secretary count toward gender representation.
