Idaho man sentenced to life for drugging and assaults

Thomas Spencer, 51, of Idaho, received a life sentence after pleading guilty to rape for repeatedly drugging a woman, assaulting her, and sharing recordings online.

Spencer pleaded guilty on June 29 in Ada County District Court. He had posted at least eight videos of the assaults on a Telegram group and remained active in the group until his arrest.

District Judge Annie McDevitt described the crimes as "unfathomable" during sentencing. The victim addressed the court, noting the lasting effects on her life and her children's lives, including sleeplessness and fear.

Prosecutor Jan Bennetts praised the victim's courage. Spencer may be eligible for parole after 40 years, following the dismissal of additional charges in the plea agreement.
