Illinois man gets 38 years for kicking wife to death

An Illinois man has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for the 2020 murder of his wife. Alan Wang, 62, was convicted of first-degree murder after kicking Hongyan Yang to death in their Naperville home.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin announced the sentence in a press release. Wang attacked his wife after discovering text messages from another man on her phone.

The assault occurred in March 2020. Prosecutors said Wang repeatedly kicked Yang in the legs while they were in their bedroom, causing fatal injuries. A relative called 911 the next day after Yang stopped breathing.

Judge Ann Celine O'Hallaren Walsh found Wang guilty following a four-day bench trial in October 2025. He must serve the full sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
