Jim Kapenstein joins Starz as chief legal and strategy officer

Starz has named longtime Disney executive Jim Kapenstein as its new chief legal and strategy officer. He will report to president and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch and start next week. The move follows the recent retirement of former general counsel Audrey Lee and chief strategy officer John Penney.

Kapenstein spent nearly 30 years at Disney, most recently serving as deputy general counsel. His work there included oversight of major acquisitions such as 21st Century Fox, Hulu, Fubo, Lucasfilm, Marvel and Pixar, along with ESPN’s equity investment with the NFL. He began his career at Arent & Fox in Washington, D.C., and later worked as a senior associate at Alston & Bird.
