Jordi Martí Galbís wins Junts primaries in Barcelona

Jordi Martí Galbís has won the Junts primaries to run for mayor of Barcelona with 40.3% of the votes. Party members selected the lawyer and current councilor ahead of Pilar Calvo, backed by Carles Puigdemont.

The primaries took place this weekend among 628 members of the Barcelona section of Junts, with a turnout of 67.24%. Martí Galbís received 40.3% of the votes, followed by Pilar Calvo with 29.3%, Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas with 18.63% and Glòria Freixa with 11.15%.

Martí Galbís, a 65-year-old lawyer and councilor for 16 years, has been politically linked to Xavier Trias for decades. Trias openly backed his candidacy after rejecting other names proposed by Puigdemont.

The result marks a distancing from Puigdemont's influence in the Catalan capital. Martí Galbís will defend the sovereignty of the municipal group to draw up lists and pacts, in contrast to positions that give more weight to the party leader.
