In their message, they stated, "KURA wishes to inform the public that a job advertisement circulating on social media is fraudulent and did not originate from the Authority." The fake ad claimed to recruit hundreds for roles such as civil engineers, superintendents, and ICT officers, along with public relations officers, customer service representatives, and many others.
The scammers used Kura's official logo and the national coat of arms to appear legitimate. They instructed applicants to submit documents to a suspicious email address by January 26, promising to contact shortlisted candidates only via email. This made it difficult for desperate job seekers in Kenya to spot the deception.
This follows a similar warning from the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) a few days earlier about fraudulent SMS messages regarding vacancies. On January 13, Kura announced 33 legitimate job openings, including director of engineering, engineer, and finance officer positions. Applications must be submitted through their official website by February 5, 2026, at 5 pm, with successful candidates receiving three-year contracts.
Kura and other government agencies have repeatedly urged the public to verify any job ad on official websites before applying and to report suspected fakes to authorities. The rise in such scams has heightened concerns amid growing unemployment in Kenya.
