Margin debt hits record $1.53 trillion in June

Margin debt rose 7.9% in June to a record $1.53 trillion, its third straight monthly gain. The figure also marked a 51.5% increase from the same month a year earlier.

The latest data showed margin debt growing for the third consecutive month. It reached a new high after climbing from May levels.

Year-over-year growth stood at 51.5%, or 46.3% when adjusted for inflation. US investor credit balances fell to a record low of negative $1.06 trillion during the same period.

The increase reflects continued borrowing by investors amid market activity.
