McLaren unveils bronze statue of Mika Hakkinen

McLaren has unveiled a bronze statue of two-time Formula 1 champion Mika Hakkinen at its Woking headquarters to mark the team's 1000th Grand Prix.

The sculpture, created by artist Paul Oz, depicts Hakkinen celebrating his 1998 title win at Suzuka. It stands on the factory's Boulevard next to his championship-winning MP4/13 car and statues of other McLaren legends including Bruce McLaren, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.

Hakkinen attended the unveiling with McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown, team principal Andrea Stella and current drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. "Wow… Good memories! This is me in Suzuka, when I won my first World Championship," Hakkinen said.

Brown highlighted the team's history, noting that McLaren is the second-most successful and second-oldest team in Formula 1. Stella described the moment as an incredible honour that motivates the current team to continue adding trophies.
