Mexico City activates yellow cold weather alert for Monday

Mexico City is under a yellow cold weather alert for the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025, with frost expected in three southern boroughs. Authorities recommend precautions to protect health from low temperatures. This is due to Cold Front 14, which still impacts the area before exiting the country.

The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City issued a yellow alert for cold weather on the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025, targeting the boroughs of Milpa Alta, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco. These areas expect minimum temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius between 00:00 and 08:00 hours, with possible frost in the early hours.

Civil Protection urges the population to dress warmly when going out, stay hydrated, eat fruits and vegetables, and not expose pets to the cold, as low temperatures could harm health. The southern part of the city is the most affected zone, though some eastern neighborhoods have also recorded low temperatures in recent days.

Among the coldest areas are Topilejo in Tlalpan at 3.9 degrees, Colonia del Mar in Tláhuac at 4.6 degrees, and Santa Ana in Milpa Alta at 5.8 degrees. Other neighborhoods like Molino del Rey in Miguel Hidalgo (6.3 degrees) and Tulyehualco in Xochimilco (6.7 degrees) also face intense cold.

This event is attributed to Cold Front 14, which will traverse northern Mexico on Monday and cease affecting the national territory by night, paving the way for Cold Front 15 starting Tuesday. While no rain is expected in CDMX in the coming days, a low-pressure channel and an upper-level trough could influence the country's overall weather.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the National Water Commission (Conagua) note that the 2025-2026 cold front season remains highly active in November, with six systems forecasted. Staying alert to official warnings is recommended to avoid risks.
