STF Minister André Mendonça was drawn by lot on Tuesday (7) as the rapporteur for former President Jair Bolsonaro's criminal complaint against Deputy André Janones (Rede-MG). The action accuses the lawmaker of slander, defamation, and injury over statements in a social media video. Bolsonaro has been under house arrest since March 27, by order of Alexandre de Moraes.
Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) drew Minister André Mendonça by lot as the rapporteur for the criminal complaint filed by Jair Bolsonaro on March 30. The action targets Deputy André Janones, who in a video posted after Bolsonaro's house arrest grant accused him of lying about his health condition to leave jail.
Janones stated on social media: “This thug thief who ordered to kill Lula, ordered to kill Alckmin, this scoundrel is going home to plot against the end of the 6x1 schedule. That's what he wants to articulate with Trump, to screw the Brazilian people". Bolsonaro's defense alleges slander, defamation, and injury in these statements.
Bolsonaro was granted 90 days of house arrest on March 27 by Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Mendonça, nominated to the STF by the former president, will handle the case's organization, including scheduling the trial.
Contacted, Janones responded via his press office: “It surprises me that a prisoner thinks he has the right to sue someone. He's doing this because I already sent the message that I'm going to beat the hell out of Flávio and he wants to protect the little bandit son".
