Mount Mindung in Jeongseon County has emerged as a top summer hiking spot after gaining attention on social media. Visitors in their 20s and 30s along with foreign tourists are drawn to its vivid green fields and prominent doline pond.
Mount Mindung stands at 1,118.8 meters in Jeongseon County, Gangwon Province. Its bare summit resulted from historical slash-and-burn farming that prevented tree growth until a 1968 nationwide ban.
A local resident said hikers now arrive every weekend in numbers similar to past festivals, even without special events. The summer green meadow and rainwater-fed doline pond have replaced the traditional autumn silver grass as the main draw.
The route from Balgudeok Village suits beginners and reaches the peak in about 30 minutes. Day trips from Seoul are feasible via Mugunghwa trains from Cheongnyangni Station.
