Interior Undersecretary Máximo Pavez backed the indication requiring public institutions to share data on irregular migrants. He stated the measure aims to facilitate notifications and does not create a general duty to report.
Pavez spoke in an interview with TVN’s Estado Nacional program. He explained the rule is part of a bill to improve administrative expulsion procedures.
The official clarified that institutions must only provide contact details such as addresses or phone numbers when requested by migration authorities during ongoing proceedings. He stressed the data would be used within the framework of the personal data protection law.
Pavez addressed health sector concerns. He said no one will be denied medical care and the indication will not affect the supply of health or education services. He compared the power to those already held by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in criminal investigations.
