Photographer Lili Kobielski has compiled her decade of images from the Kentucky Derby into a new book, focusing on the spectators' fashion rather than the horses. Titled *At the Derby: Kentucky’s Grandest Celebration of Fashion*, the collection highlights the event's diverse outfits and vibrant crowd. The book arrives ahead of the 152nd running of the race at Churchill Downs.
At the Kentucky Derby, held annually on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs, all eyes are typically on the horses racing in what is known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” But for photographer Lili Kobielski, who has covered the event for more than a decade for Vogue, the real stars are the spectators in the stands. “There’s really nothing like it,” Kobielski says. “I especially love the diversity of the racegoers and the general ebullience of the crowd. The energy is electric and the huge hats, colorful outfits, and incredible characters make it an endlessly engaging subject.”
