The Philippine National Police has identified around 10 to 11 people who will face criminal cases over the drowning deaths of two Ateneo de Manila University basketball players in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group is wrapping up its probe. He told reporters the personalities are mostly staff of Ateneo’s men’s basketball team. Investigators have interviewed nearly 100 people and collected about 1,200 pages of testimonies.
Among the cases police are eyeing are homicide and violation of Republic Act 11053 or the Anti-Hazing Law. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said they intend to submit their recommendations to the DOJ by tomorrow.
Rene Clert Baterbonia was laid to rest on June 24 at the Barangay Labnig Memorial Cemetery in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur. His mother, Rovelyn, called for justice during the funeral.
