President Prabowo Subianto has ordered accelerated emergency response to floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra since the first day. The government deploys TNI AU aircraft to deliver logistics aid, while challenges like severed roads and disrupted communications hinder evacuations. The tropical cyclone Senyar is the main trigger for the extreme weather.
The hydrometeorological disaster triggered by tropical cyclone Senyar has struck three provinces in Sumatra since November 24, 2025, causing flash floods and landslides. President General (Ret.) Prabowo Subianto directly instructed Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno to coordinate BNPB, TNI, Polri, and local governments from November 25. "So since the first day of the disaster, the President has ordered our BNPB team to move immediately assisted by TNI-Polri, active local governments, and for emergency response, evacuation tents, food, and daily needs have been sent," said Pratikno at Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma Base, Jakarta, on November 28, 2025.
That Friday morning, four TNI AU aircraft—three Super Hercules and one Airbus A400—departed at 07:30 WIB from Halim Base Ops, carrying aid such as communication tools, rubber boats, generators, tents, and food. Destinations include Padang Airport (West Sumatra), Silangit (North Sumatra), and Banda Aceh and Lhokseumawe (Aceh). Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasized this is not the first shipment, with ongoing aid flows based on direct communication from Prabowo with local governors and regents, including those of North Sumatra and Aceh.
The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) sent 350 hygiene kits, 350 blankets, 1,500 sarongs, and other needs via Hercules, focused on Lhokseumawe, Central Tapanuli, and Padang. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman allocated 32,700 tons of rice and 6,300 tons of cooking oil, with details of 16,000 tons of rice for North Sumatra, 6,700 tons for West Sumatra, and 10,000 tons for Aceh. The Social Affairs Ministry adjusted BLTS distribution for Q4 2025 worth Rp900,000-Rp1.2 million per KPM via PT Pos Indonesia, including at evacuation posts.
On the ground, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi prioritized victim rescue and basic needs in Agam and Padang Pariaman, where roads collapsed since November 24. In Aceh, Governor Muzakir Manaf declared emergency status on November 27 for 16 regencies/cities; Bener Meriah area is isolated due to severed roads and power outages, with residents like Widya struggling to communicate. Deputy Public Works Minister Diana Kusumawati reported 4 bridges collapsed in Aceh and 20 landslide points in North Sumatra, with 48 heavy equipment units deployed. Basarnas noted evacuation hindered by communication networks, with 9 fatalities in Central Aceh and 2 missing. The government also conducted weather modification operations to reduce rainfall.
