Senators from the Socialist Party and the Broad Front met Monday with ministers Claudio Alvarado and Jorge Quiroz to deliver documents with observations on the megareform promoted by President José Antonio Kast's government.
The senators arrived at the Democracia room in La Moneda around 13:25 hours. Each caucus presented different texts after failing to unify their positions in a prior meeting between party presidents.
The PS proposal, 16 pages long, calls for a gradual reduction of the first category tax from 25% to 23% with permanent compensations and requests the withdrawal of the project's urgency. The FA document, six pages long, stresses measures to combat evasion, expand the Unified Employment Subsidy and lower the cost of living.
The ministers responded that the Executive will not modify core aspects such as the tax cut or fiscal invariability. Attendees noted the meeting was seen as a final effort before the Senate vote, where the opposition leans toward rejecting the idea of legislating.
