Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Kyiv early on May 24, 2026, killing at least two people and injuring 77 others. Ukrainian officials reported damage across every district of the capital, including cultural sites.
The assault involved 600 drones and 90 missiles, including the Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile, according to Ukraine's air force. Most drones and more than half the missiles were intercepted by air defenses. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned of the strikes hours earlier, citing intelligence from Europe and the United States. An Oreshnik missile also struck Bila Tserkva, about 50 miles south of Kyiv.
