SD politician charged with fraud resigns from all posts

A Sweden Democrats politician from Örebro County is charged with gross fraud and receiving stolen goods after falsely reporting vehicles as stolen and receiving nearly one million kronor in compensation.

The politician is accused of falsely reporting a car and a trailer as stolen while hiding a stolen quad bike. All three vehicles were later found in southern Norrland.

He held eight political assignments in regional and municipal politics in the county and was listed as a candidate for a municipal assembly by the Sweden Democrats.

Following the charges he resigned from all posts and left the party. District chairman Richard Sandström said the suspicions came as a surprise and that the politician would otherwise have been removed.
