The drone-metal duo Sunn O))) have shared a new track, “Butch’s Guns,” from their upcoming self-titled album on Sub Pop, set for release on April 3. The song previews their first new material since 2019, alongside announcements of additional European tour dates following a North American run. The album features recordings made exclusively by Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson at Bear Creek Studios in Washington.

Sunn O))), the drone-metal project of Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson, released the single “Butch’s Guns” on February 19, 2026. The track is part of their self-titled tenth album, due April 3 via Sub Pop, marking their debut with the label after signing in October 2025. That signing was accompanied by three singles: “Eternity’s Pillars,” “Raise the Chalice,” and “Reverential,” drawn from the same sessions.

The album was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, with producer Brad Wood. “The vast tracking room had big windows looking out on trees,” O'Malley said. “We could go hiking and be out in the woods, spend time outdoors. That became a big part of it.” Anderson added, “It was very inviting and very comfortable there. We just let ourselves go, and let the music come out.” For the first time, the duo handled all instrumentation without collaborators, though they have previously worked with artists like Attila Csihar and Hildur Guðnadóttir.

The six-track album includes “XXANN,” “Does Anyone Hear Like Venom?,” “Butch’s Guns,” “Mindrolling,” “Everett Moses,” and “Glory Black.” It incorporates field recordings and piano, reflecting the forested setting. Cover art features Mark Rothko paintings, with liner notes by Robert Macfarlane and illustrations by Elodie Lesourd.

Sunn O)))'s North American tour begins March 30 in San Francisco and ends June 25 in Portland, Oregon. The newly added European leg starts June 23 in Zurich, Switzerland, with dates in Antwerp, Amsterdam, Cologne, Bristol, Brighton, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, London, and Berlin through July 7.
